One day after filling one of their coaching vacancies, the Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly filled another one of the vacancies on their coaching staff Wednesday with the hiring of Danny Smith to be their special teams coordinator. For Smith, who has spent the past eight seasons with the Washington Redskins, he will be charged with improving an area that cost the Steelers at least one victory in 2012.

While no word has been filtered out of the Steelers facilities, multiple sources are reporting that Smith will be hired. Smith has long been a target for head coach Mike Tomlin, who attempted to interview him three years ago for the position.

Although, the Redskins had some ups-and-downs during his tenure, Smith is dedicated, detailed, and a players coach. He amazingly kept his job with the Redskins through three coaching changes; Joe Gibbs, Jim Zorn and Mike Shanahan.

He will have his work cut out for him in 2013, as there is almost a certainty that the Steelers will have many new faces on his units and likely will have to find a return specialist in the draft after the release of Chris Rainey.

Smith will also be returning home by accepting this position. A Pittsburgh native, he still has family residing in the area.
