There is no question that the lack of depth at cornerback has hurt the Pittsburgh Steelers in these past two contests, especially against the Dallas Cowboys where the finished the game with only two healthy cornerbacks available. While there is hope that they will be in better shape this week in the critical AFC North battle against the Cincinnati Bengals, one thing is certain, starting cornerback Ike Taylor will not be available.
With Taylor out against the Bengals, there is hope that Keenan Lewis and Cortez Allen will be back in the fold this week to boost the battered secondary. At this point, Curtis Brown and Josh Victorian will be the primary back-ups, as the team placed reserve cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke on injured reserve after injuring his shoulder against the Cowboys. To take his spot on the roster, the Steelers signed veteran Justin King.
In other moves of the day, the team welcomed back Rashard Mendenhall from his one-game suspension back into the fold. While there is no clear indication for his playing time moving forward, he may have to play a larger role to get the struggling rushing attack back in gear. To make room for Mendenhall, the Steelers placed guard Willie Colon (knee) on injured reserve for the third straight season.
