The Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3) may have pulled out a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs (1-8) on Monday night, but the price of that victory is still up in the air. At this point, both the short and long-term status of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has yet to be determined.Mike Tomlin confirmed what many fans feared when the Pro Bowl quarterback left the field against the Chiefs, that he suffered a sprained shoulder in the third quarter of action. The injury, termed a sterno-clavicular (SC) sprain, was caused when linebackers Tamba Hali and Justin Houston sandwiched him on a third down pass attempt.
During his weekly press conference Tomlin announced Roethlisberger as questionable for their Sunday night match-up against the Baltimore Ravens, but pointed out that the quarterback is still be evaluated by the training staff. While Roethlisberger has a flair for the dramatic, it would be a shock if he were able to suit up against the Ravens.
If he cannot go, all signs point toward Byron Leftwich getting the start in his stead against the Ravens in this all-important AFC North contest. It would also mean that veteran back-up Charlie Batch would step into the fold as the number two quarterback.
