Just when the Pittsburgh Steelers finally received some good news along the injury front, the team received a scare when their franchise quarterback had to leave practice early after rolling his ankle. To make things worse, it is the same ankle he damaged in 2011.
Of course, this is Ben Roethlisberger we are talking about, and after practice even though was walking with a limp, he sounded optimistic that the ankle would not be an issue in their critical match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Of course, this is definitely something worth monitoring as the week moves forward.Prior to this scare, it was another leg that was the talk of practice, the one belonging to center Maurkice Pouncey. Pouncey, who looked doubtful at best early in the week returned to practice Thursday and could play against the Bengals, something that appeared to be a dreamlike scenario days ago.
The news was not so positive when it came to running back, as running backs Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles) and Isaac Redman (knee) missed practice again Thursday. If neither can go, it appears that Baron Batch, Chris Rainey and possibly Jonathan Dwyer will carry the load in Cincinnati Sunday night.
Of course, with the offensive line in disarray, this may not be a tremendous issue, as the Steelers could not run the ball with a healthy offensive line early in the season. Thus Batch and Rainey with their receiving skills may play a larger role than once expected.
