The Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles are caught up in a tight battle, with the Steelers leading 10-0 at halftime.
Both teams had opportunities to put points on the board, but fell short early. After a scoreless first quarter, which featured two Eagles turnovers (Michael Vick Fumbles), the teams continued through an ugly first half of action until midway through the second quarter when the Steelers went into no-huddle mode.On the drive, the Steelers used a solid combination of run and pass to set up a 13-yard Rashard Mendenhall touchdown scamper. This 12-play 75-yard drive took 7:21 off the clock and looked like the offense fans have seen throughout the early part of the season. After a defensive stop, the Steelers offense continued to get into sync with another no-huddle drive. The 12-play 77-yard drive took 2:28 off the clock and was capped off by a Shaun Suisham 20-yard field goal with six seconds left in the half to extent the lead to 10-0.
Mendenhall has looked good in his return to action from his ACL injury. In all, he had four carries for 20-yards and one touchdown, with a 24-yard run called back. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a subpar first half completing 15-of-25 passes for 137 yards.
The biggest news of the first half was injuries to the Steelers defense with Troy Polamalu (calf) and linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) leaving the game. While both are officially questionable to return, it is doubtful the Steelers risk long-term injury.
