According to Fox Sports Jay Glazer, the Pittsburgh Steelers have parted ways with special teams coordinator Al Everest. The move comes as a bit of a surprise just two weeks from the start of regular season, but the move does seem to be true.
Everest was seen leaving the team facility with a handful of his belongings. As of now no one is sure what caused this change, but as unusual as it is for a mid-preseason coaching change to happen it looks true. He will be replaced on the staff by Special Teams Assistant Amos Jones, one of Mike Tomlin's first hires in Pittsburgh.
In a statement from Tomlin he states, "We are continually evaluating our coaching staff and support staff, and we have decided to go in a different direction with respect to the coaching of our special teams, I want to thank Al for his contributions and efforts, and I wish him well in the future.''
With that statement, Everest, who was about to enter his 16th season as a special teams coordinator, saw his tenure with the Steelers come to an end. .
