STEELERS 101

 

One of the great things about covering all 30 prospects that the Pittsburgh Steelers brought in for visits, is the ability to see the entire spectrum of talent they are looking at. While some are top tier guys, Dont’a Hightower, Dontari Poe, etc., some are late round prospects with upside and players who could develop into solid contributors on special teams or add depth.

One of the more interesting late-round prospects is Alabama Jerrell Harris, a player that has the look of a Lawrence Timmons type player. While he may not receive the hype of Hightower, he was a solid contributor for Alabama and demonstrated the position flexibility that teams are searching for. At 6-2, 239 pounds and running a 4.7 40-yard dash, he played both the Sam and Will linebacker positions in the Crimson Tides 3-4 schemes, mostly asked to drop into coverage on passing downs. More importantly, he was a special teamer for Alabama, where he may need to take root early in his NFL career. 

One of the more versatile members of the Alabama defense, today, he may be more of an athlete than linebacker and is still developing. The are some red flags in his past as he was suspended by the NCAA for improper benefits, something that must be ran to ground prior to the draft. In the end, he looks like a solid late round prospect that could develop into a blue collar linebacker and special team dynamo.
