Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed back one of their own in OG Ramon Foster, when he signed his $1.2 million restricted free agent tender. Since arriving in 2009 as an undrafted free agent, the 6-6, 325-pound guard has started 26 games and is tentatively penciled in as the teams opening day starter at right guard. Last season, Foster quietly and consistently went about his business, and combined with rookie offensive tackle to solidify the right side of the offensive line.
To date, he is the first restricted free agent to sign their tender and return to the franchise and only the third player from the 2011 roster to move in any direction, with the Steelers losing CB William Gay (Arizona) and OT Jamon Meredith (Tampa Bay).
In other notes on the free agent from, three Steelers unrestricted free agents are gaining interest from other clubs, with QB Byron Leftwich rumored to be a target of the Indianapolis Colts, and WR Jerricho Cotchery and QB Dennis Dixon visiting the St. Louis Rams.
The train of pre-draft visitors also continued last week with some interesting names. One player that seems to be rising up draft boards and generating buzz is Ole Miss offensive tackle Bobbie Massie. Massie is intriguing because of his athleticism, prototypical size, potential and some of his game tape. Unfortunately, that game tape will also reveal inconsistency and a somewhat raw prospect.
With the addition of Massie, to this point, the Steelers have brought in or scheduled visits with these players:
Ohio State offensive tackle Mike Adams (Steelers101 profile 3/30)
Miami (Ohio) offensive guard Brandon Brooks (Steelers101 profile 4/1)
Regina defensive tackle Akiem Hicks
Florida International wide receiver T.Y. Hilton (Steelers101 profile 3/31)
Virginia defensive end Cam Johnson
Stanford long snapper Zach Nolan
Cincinnati defensive end Derek Wolfe
Colorado wide receiver Toney Clemons (Steelers101 profile 4/4)
West Virginia cornerback Keith Tandy
Alabama linebacker Jerrell Harris
Cincinnati running back Isaiah Pead (Steelers101 profile 4/4)
Ole Miss offensive tackle Bobbie Massie
